Top New Tech from CES 2022
CES, one of the largest tech trade shows in the world, was hosted in person this year in Las Vegas, NV. As usual, the trade show was host to a wide range of fascinating new technologies. Some of which provide exciting new functionality, while others are simply fun or even bizarre.
Let’s take a look at some of the most interesting new products and prototypes that made an appearance at CES 2022.
Sony’s Bravia XR A95K Television
The latest Bravia TV from Sony will feature the world’s first ever QD-OLED (quantum dot organic light emitting diode). QD-OLED isn’t quite the gamechanger that MicroLED will be when it becomes affordable enough for the average consumer, but it’s definitely a step up from OLED.
QD-OLED “boosts color brightness by up to 200 percent compared to conventional TVs.” It does this while retaining the pros of OLED, such as absolute black levels and limitless contrast. The QD layer provides a more efficient use of blue light emissions—the highest energy emissions from an OLED TV. This allows more vivid colors and brightness levels far higher than regular OLED.
The panels, which are manufactured by Samsung will come in 65” and 55”, both in 4K resolution.
LG’s G2 and C2 Televisions
The G2 and C2 are LG’s largest and smallest OLED 4K TVs, respectively. At 97” and 42”, LG is offering the new sizes with some upgrades to their OS. LG’s 5th gen A9 processor includes better 4K upscaling, tone mapping, and foreground object enhancement that provides a truer representation of depth in picture. These ‘Evo’ models come with all of the advantages of their predecessors and then some.
The G2 for example will have higher brightness capabilities by way of brightness boosting algorithms and improved heat dissipation. Somewhat like the technology of the Sony Bravia XR A95K, more brightness is achieved through more efficiency of energy output.
Mojo Vision’s Smart Contact Lens
Mojo Vision’s amazing smart contact lens looks like something straight out of a science fiction story. This prototype first appeared at the 2020 CES, and hasn’t made a whole lot of changes yet since the technology is still in its infancy.
The smart contact lens includes a tiny display that can do things like aid people who have mild visual impairments, provide notifications and real-time data, and supplement athletic training programs. Mojo Vision plans to target the fitness and sports market first, and allow people to view data and content without even having to look down at a device.
Self-driving Tractor from John Deere
Although GPS guided steering has already created automated driving for the most part, John Deere’s new self-driving tractor eliminates the need for a driver entirely. This will most likely be the norm for heavy machinery in the future. It has the potential to eliminate human error, reduce the need for employee bandwidth, and reduce the risk of injuries.
Samsung Freestyle Smart Projector
The Freestyle is like a portable smart TV combined with the functionality of a projector. Not only can it display videos of all kinds, also works as a customizable decorative light source, and a music player. It’ll be priced at just under $900.
Hyundai’s Plug & Drive Module
Having recently acquired Boston Dynamics, Hyundai is using its manufacturing power to drive Boston Dynamics’ vision into the future—with a general purpose, self-balancing motorized board. The device is essentially a shelf on wheels, and can be used in a huge variety of scenarios to save people trips back and forth to supply rooms, or allow people to deliver items in-house without leaving their station.
Conclusion
